"Out of the Shadows: Bringing to Light Black Horsemen in Saddlebred History"

Now passed but not forgotten.

Join the American Saddlebred Mailing List (ASBML)

Back in Black, A History of Black Horsemen in the Twentieth Century, is a work in progress, undertaken by Bud and Michelle Butler, with the assistance of many friends and family members.

This website will be used as a way of gathering information and will spotlight individual horsemen of the past and present. While our primary focus is on "show horses" (American Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walkers and Morgans), black horsemen of all breeds will be considered.

2004 is the 40th Anniversary of Civil Rights in America. Michelle has written a brief essay she'd like to share with you here.

If a black horseman has touched your life please complete our survey to submit information both to this site and to the book. We are interested in any information you may have or that you would like to see on the site! Our research department welcomes all leads, photos and information you would be willing to share.
